thunderbstorThe movie starts when Lightfoot a young man steals a car, and unawares, an assassin John “Thunderbolt” Doherty is preparing to kill a minister at his rostrum. Lightfoot unawares rescues Thunderbolt on his escapes by foot.

 

It emerges that Thunderbolt is a bank robber who had been hiding under the imitation of a clerk. The money from the robbery has never been found, but Thunderbolt knows where it was hidden.

 

Thunderbolt´s previous partners assume that he stole it. After checking Thunderbolt and Lightfoot discover that the old schoolhouse in which the money had been hidden had been replaced by a modern structure, and they think the cash was destroyed by accident.

  • ‘Michael Cimino’ was given the chance to write and direct this picture for Clint Eastwood after Eastwood was impressed with a rewrite Cimino did on the second “Dirty Harry” script, Magnum Force (1973).
